Lachen Endogenous Tourism Festival
16th - 18th October 2008
To welcome you this autumn, we have organized a Endogenous Tourism Festival for three days for the first time in Lachen. You can have a first hand experience of the local culture, traditional folk dances, traditional food and also the traditional handicraft. Lachen is well known to have preserved it ancient traditional including the local self governing system called the “Dzumsa”. More then 12 different handicraft / arts shall be displayed and demonstrated on the event.

A three day capacity building programme was conducted by
Lachen Dzumsa under the ndogenous Tourism Project
funded by Ministry of Tourism, Government of India and
UNDP, India. The programme started on the 18th of August
and continued upto 20th August 2008. |

| LACHEN SETS FOR ZERO WASTE RURAL TOURIST DESTINATION |
After a prolonged wait from the snow covered Lachen, the
Dzumsa finally decided to carry out the cleaning drive on 20th May
2008. This initiative was a part of the Endogenous Tourism Project
funded by Ministry of Tourism, Government of India and UNDP
where North District Collector is the focal point. |

Day 1 – 16th October 2008
The festival will start with an inauguration programme of the site by the eminent guest from various department of Sikkim and India. There will be a series of cultural programme, craft exhibition cum sale starting from 16th October 2008. We wanted to visitors to reach Lachen before 16th or if not on the 16th evening, since this inaugural functions may not be of any interest to you
Day 2 – 17th October 2008
The second and third day are especially meant for the visitors of lachen. Activities of the day includes
- Village walk
- Visit to the old Lachen Monastery
- Traditional cultural show
- Traditional handicraft exhibition cum sale
- Traditional food / beverage stall
- Display of local customs
- Horse ride
Day 3 – 18th October 2008
On the final day we have a series of traditional game for your entertainment. Here you can actually participant in many of the game with local people. The traditional games are unique to the region will be especially host for the visitors.
How ever, the choice are yours. Your tours to Lachen does not become completed without visiting the world’s highest Plateau. You can plan for drive to Gurudongmar lake ( 17100 ft ) or plan for a short duration trek to Lamo Angdang, Tarum hot spring, Deothang and Chopta valley
