Tarum Trek

A half hour drive from Lachen towards Chungthang gets you to the base of the two hour trek to Tarum. The initial part of the climb is over steep steps after which the route becomes gentle. For the entirety of the walk you are encompassed within the dense green temperate forests, form the mighty oaks to the slender bamboos to the tall hemlocks and silver firs. Once you reach Tarum there is a permanent structure consisting of two rooms, two toilets and a kitchen where you can relax and even stay for the night. From the comfort of the hut you can observe the Yellow beaked blue Magpie and  Flycatchers, sing and dance.

A little beyond the hut after crossing the stream there are two hot springs where one can have a relaxing dip. The one on top is being the hotter of the two is considered as the male and the lower one as the female. As per tradition one must always enter the female pond on the top before entering the male one.
